For me, it is hard to talk about what metaliteracy means as a person who never heard
“metaliteracy” this word before taking information literacy course. After taking the first
class of information literacy course, I had some ideas about what metaliteracy is. From
my understanding, metaliteracy is an ability of gathering information and using
information correctly. It is a new term to describe the processes of collecting information,
distinguishing useful information among a lot of sources, and analyzing information which
can support our thoughts. I hope that at the end of this semester, I can bring the abilities
of searching useful information, analyzing information more efficiently and improving my
poor research skills.
Nowadays, the information is all around the places. Therefore how to distinguish good
and bad information according to what we need becomes much more important no matter
in school or out of school. Becoming more metaliterate can help me to more quickly gather
useful information from inside and outside of the classrooms and reformulate the
information I receive into the forms that I can use. I think becoming more metaliterate
will help me to accept the information from all kinds of sources more quickly and have own
opinions produced within these information. Moreover, the job market also require some
metaliterate abilities, so being metaliterate also help me in the work place.
Many people who are studying metaliteracy may think that the MOOC is a good source for
studying metaliteracy. MOOC creates a stage for people from all round the world to
communicate with each other and talk about what their understandings of metaliteracy. I
hope I can enjoy this study environment in MOOC.
